What are the uses of quartz glass

2018-12-25 15:47

The formation of quartz glass is the result of its high viscosity at high temperature. It is widely used in the production of semiconductors, electro-optical sources, semiconductor communication devices, lasers, optical instruments, laboratory instruments, electrical equipment, medical equipment, high temperature and corrosion resistant chemical instruments, chemical industry, electronics, metallurgy, building materials and defense industries. High-purity quartz glass can be used to make optical fibers. With the development of semiconductor technology, quartz glass is widely used in various processes of semiconductor production. For example, the Czochralski method converts polycrystalline into single crystal silicon, the cleaning tank used for cleaning; the diffusion tube and groove boat used for diffusion; the clock used for ion implantation, etc.

Differences between quartz glass and ordinary glass

1. High temperature resistance. The softening point of quartz glass is about 1730℃, and it can be used for a long time at 1100℃, and the maximum use temperature for a short time can reach 1450℃.

2. Corrosion resistance. Except for hydrofluoric acid, quartz glass hardly reacts chemically with other acids. Its acid corrosion resistance is 30 times better than that of acid-resistant ceramics and 150 times better than that of stainless steel. Especially its chemical stability at high temperatures is unmatched by any other engineering material.

3. Good thermal stability. The thermal expansion coefficient of quartz glass is extremely small and can withstand drastic temperature changes. When quartz glass is heated to about 1100°C, it will not burst even if it is placed in normal temperature water. Quartz glass is widely used because of its stable chemical properties, and its application range is determined by its properties, but the places of use are different according to the different areas required. Glass is not necessarily transparent. Quartz glass is also divided into transparent and opaque types, which can be freely selected according to its use. Quartz has a high purity. Although it has undergone post-processing, it has relatively more natural components. However, quartz glass also has certain defects. People should understand its advantages and disadvantages and use it correctly.
